Hawzah News Agency – Egypt’s professional squash star Ali Farag said yesterday that the reason why the oppression in Palestine has been kept in the dark for decades was that it did not fit the Western media narrative.
But since people are suddenly allowed to speak about oppression in Ukraine, said Farag, then it’s an opportunity to also highlight the suffering in Palestine as a result of the Israeli occupation.
“We all see what's going on in the world at the moment with Ukraine, and no one is happy with what's going on. No one should accept any killings in the world or any oppression,” Farag said in a video that went viral on the social media.
He added, “We've never been allowed to speak about politics and sports, but all of a sudden now it is allowed. So that we are allowed, I hope that people also look at the oppression everywhere in the world. I mean the Palestinians have been going through that for the past 74 years.”
“But I guess because it doesn't fit the narrative of the media of the West that we couldn't talk about it, but now we can talk about Ukraine and so we can talk about the Palestinians.”
